A public meeting today in Ottawa concerning the updating of the flood plain maps in the area will be held at the City Commission Chambers from 2 this afternoon until7 this evening. Officials from the Kansas division of water resources, engineering contractor wood environment & infrastructure, the city of Ottawa, and Franklin County will be on hand at the open house to answer questions and take the public’s comments about the proposed changes. With the excessive rain and flooding the county has experienced this spring and summer, one might think the changes are being done in response, however, Franklin County emergency management Director Alan Radcliff says, “It’s been underway for quite some time.”

New satellite technology has made it possible to provide more accurate maps regarding a property’s flood risk. The map is available on the county and city web site.
