The Ottawa Police Department recently participated in “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” campaign. They conducted overtime saturation patrols to aggressively enforce Kansas impaired driving laws. During the enforcement campaign, officers working routine patrol during the August 15th through September 2nd enforcement period arrested 8 impaired drivers. Officers also mad 2 arrests for other alcohol violations, and 6 drug related arrests while conducting traffic enforcement.
According to the special traffic enforcement program coordinator, Sergeant Casey Gillmore, stops, arrests, and tickets are primarily meant to teach. If you were stopped, you hopefully learned from your experience. If so, the police have made the roads a little safer for you and those you share the road with. He adds that the police department will continue to do that because, while the “You Drink You Drive You Lose” campaign may be over; traffic enforcement never ends.
