An Ottawa University student died in the early morning hours yesterday in Douglas county. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer, 20-year-old Joseph Irelan, of Erie, died after parking his vehicle for unknown reasons, walking to the railroad tracks, and being struck by an oncoming train. The incident was at the intersection of North 2000 Road and East 950 Road. Ottawa University President, Reggies Wenyika says the university has grief counseling and other support services available for all students, faculty and staff if needed.
