Co-defendant involved in the death of Wichita man was sentenced yesterday. Casey Viner, 19, of Ohio was sentenced to 15 months in prison and then 2 years of supervised release. Viner pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of obstructing justice.
The case involved Tyler Barriss, 20 calling Wichita police reporting a hostage situation at 10-33 West McCormick, which was not true. Barriss and Viner were playing an online video game before making the prank emergency call. When Andrew Finch, who lived at the address made a move that startled officers he was shot and killed. Barriss who made the call, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, pleading guilty to more than 50 felonies nationwide.
