Work has started on the connection to the Flint Hills Trail just west of the Southwest corning of the Karl Cole Sports Complex in Osawatomie. The trail right now ends southwest of Trojan Elementary.
Plans have been in the making for several months. Both private and public funds are being used to finance the project. A nine-member Osawatomie Trails task force has been working to oversee that the project will lead to a nice trailhead for all users, including out-of-town trail enthusiasts.
The Trial is already receiving good usage from John Brown Highway, about 1.5 miles west of Osawatomie, west to Ottawa. Other segments are also used by hikers and bicyclists between Ottawa and Council Grove. The entire trail is considered a part of the State Park System.
