The Ottawa city commission appears set to approve an electric rate hike at its regular meeting tomorrow. During the study session, commissioner Mike Skidmore started a discussion about reducing the October first rate hike from 10 percent to 9 percent.
As it stands now, rates would increase nine percent October first, and 10 percent in October of 2020. However, those future rates could change based on data that would show whether the rate increases are increasing the electric department’s financial integrity as expected.
