Last week was fire safety week and the Ottawa Fire Department wants you to know ways you can prevent fires, and in case of a fire, how to protect yourself and your family. The majority of home fires in the U.S. begin in the kitchen. Sometimes we forget we’re cooking something and get distracted, sometimes what we are cooking catches on fire. Captain Dennis Nowatsky of the Ottawa Fire Department says you can put the fire out quickly in most cases.
He emphasizes practicing what you would do in case of a fire, not only in the kitchen but also having a plan of escape for your family.
