Three occupants died in a fatality accident in Douglas County last night. 20-year-old Tiffany Cox, of Ottawa was traveling Southbound on Highway 59 mile marker 152 about 3 miles South of Lawrence at 5:40 yesterday evening. Cox lost control and crossed the median in to the Northbound lane. 19-year-old Kiffany Mietchen, of Baldwin City, and 8-month-old Azreal Ubelaker, of Baldwin City, were passengers.
Craig McKinney, 62, of Topeka was traveling Northbound and broadsided Cox. Cox, Mietchen, and Ubelaker were pronounced dead on the scene. McKinney was taken to KU Medical Center with minor injuries. Highway 59 was shut down for more than 5 hours South of Lawrence and reopened by 11:30 that evening.
