The freeze that hit the midwest last week was another hurdle for area corn and soybean growers with a crop that is already developing at a slow pace. USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey says only 73% of the corn was at full maturity as of last weekend, breaking a record held since 2009, and the soybean crop isn’t looking much better.

The farmers will have to wait for more drying to occur before harvest to be completed.
