The Anderson County Veterans Memorial is getting closer to reality. Organizers have released an artist’s rendering of the proposed memorial. It will be 41 feet long and 18 feet high, made of brick and will have black marble panels featuring each military service and is designed to be similar to the architectural style of the Anderson County Courthouse, including the towers. One very unique aspect of the memorial will be touch screen computer kiosks with photo and audio from each of the veterans featured in the memorial.
The Anderson County Review published 5,000 veterans names this week that could be on the memorial. It is hoped that people will validate the names for accuracy and promote participation to vets and their families who may not have submitted information. The memorial project has been funded by private donations and a temporary tax levy in the county budget that has raised $480,000.
