Could a vaccine one day be given to prevent breast cancer and other forms of the disease? Mayo Clinic surgeon Dr. Amy Degnim is on the team that’s evaluating a vaccine against the HER2 protein found in the majority of women with non invasive breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in SITU or DCIS.

She adds that assessing this vaccine in women with DCIS is an important step toward the ultimate goal of eliminating cancer from our world.

Clinical trials at the Mayo Clinic have started and reports last week have been effectively removed cancer cells, and that they have trials going on for all stages of cancer, even stage 4, with patients showing positive results.
