The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a stream advisory the Marais Des Cygnes River at Osawatomie; North of the Mill Street Bridge, East of Highway 169 and Main Street. The city is working to repair a break to the main sewer line leading to the wastewater treatment plant.
Due to the line break, bacteria and other pollutant levels may be potentially elevated in the Marais Des Cygnes River and neighboring tributaries in the vicinity of Osawatomie. If you live or have activities near these locations, do not enter or allow children or pets to enter the stream. KDHE will rescind the advisory after the repairs are completed and water samples show no health risk and water contact has been deemed safe in the Marais Des Cygnes.
