Paola Middle School students have been issued a challenge. Be winner. Both in and out of school. Paola USD 368 recently become one of 10 pilot school districts in Kansas to implement the teammates mentorship program. Teammates was created in 1991 by former Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne, and it’s now utilized by more than 170 school districts in five states throughout the midwest, according to the organizations website. Former University of Nebraska standout football player Demoine Adams was the guest speaker for an assembly last week at the school.
He says the program can provide a mento who will spend 30 to 40 minutes with students once a week at the school. It’s a free program. They are then matched with a trained mentor, with girls paired with girls and boys paired with boys. 95% of teammates participants graduate on time.
