A public storm shelter for the city of Garnett is one step closer to reality. Anderson County Emergency Management Director JD Mersman addressed to Garnett City Council and told them the location has been decided.
He also pointed out that there will only be one shelter right now. It had been reported that there would be two, however he indicated they were only requesting funding for one. The City of Garnett and Anderson County will split the remaining cost not covered by FEMA, about $6,000 apiece. Mersman says he would like to see the shelter in place early this spring.
