The algae issue at City Lake in Louisburg was addressed a couple weeks ago as a vertex aeration system with an air compressor, compressor cabinet and 10 diffuser air stations were installed around the lake. The Louisburg City Council voted unanimously in early September to accept a grant from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism for $18,537, about two-thirds of the $27,953 total cost of the system.

Solitude Lake Management installed the system, designed to remove undesirable amounts of stagnation to reduce to algae buildup. Some very important information with winter approaching, the Public Works Department cautions residents to please not walk on ice at the lake. The aeration system circulates water throughout the lake, so any ice that forms will be thinner than normal and potentially dangerous.
