As you and your kids get ready to stock up on all the yummy candy this Halloween and gorge yourself for days on end, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment wants to remind you that Americans purchase about 600 million pounds of candy a year for Halloween, but that’s not the message. They say that tooth decay is the most common chronic disease of childhood and more than 50% of children have some sort of decay by the age of 5. All this can be prevented by doing two simple things, number 1, ease up on the sugary intakes for the kids, including candy. Number 2, brush brush brush. Brushing your teeth can remove most of the harmful effects the sugar can cause, and don’t forget even Dracula needs to brush.
