An accident this morning on I-35 at Sunflower Road in Edgerton killed the driver of a semi truck. The truck hit a pillar on a bridge head on. The crash caused the truck to burn. The call came in shortly after 2:30 this morning. A preliminary investigation shows a semi tractor trailer lost control for an unknown reason, striking the middle support pillar of Sunflower Bridge and caught fire. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene.
I-35 was closed in both direction for several hours as law enforcement, fire and K-Dot investigated, assessed damage to the bridge and cleaned up the scend. The scene has been cleared and authorities have opened up all lanes in both directions.
This incident remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.
