An Osage County Woman has been convicted of animal cruelty after she allowed emaciated dogs to roam and terrorize an area near Lyndon. According to a news release from the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Christi Shaffer entered a plea of no contest on October 31 and was found guilty of two counts of animal cruelty and one count of allowing a dangerous animal to be at large. The dogs attacked animals and at least one person.

As part of a plea agreement, Shaffer was sentenced to 45 days in the Osage County Jail and then 36 months of probation. She must also relinquish ownership of the dogs and is not allowed to own any animals during her probation. She was also fined $1,100 and ordered to pay to Osage County Sheriff $1,222.39 for providing vet care for the animals. Her plea deal also ordered that she tell the Sheriff where she sent the rest of the dogs that were not captured by deputies. Sheriff Laurie Dunn says she made contact with the person who has them and that the animals have been provided with excellent care and their condition has improved. Some of the dogs have already been adopted and the remaining dogs will receive appropriate care until permanent adoptive homes are located.
