A former Ottawa Police Officer has been sentenced to 12 months probation in connection with a domestic altercation in September of 2018. Steven Burkhart plead no contest to Misdemeanor Battery in connection for the dropping of a felony Criminal Threat charge. A jury trial had been scheduled for later this month. During a hearing in Franklin County District Court, Burkhart’s ex-wife read an emotional statement. She says that Burkhart injured their young son, causing numerous bruises. She stated she didn’t feel justice was being served. In addition to the probation, Burkhart must undergo a psychological evaluation and get counseling for anger management.
