The Ottawa Middle School will hold their Veteran’s Day celebration today and be treated to two speakers. First, in an emotional tribute, retired Marine Sargent and OMS science teacher Nick Harris will tell students of a phone call he got after the 9-11 attacks, calling him back into service. He announced final roll call for the men and reads the poem “The Final Inspection.”
Then, special speaker Petty Officer 3rd Class, U.S Navy veteran Jay Weineke will talk about his time in the service, recall some memories and give the students some insight on what Veteran’s Day means for him. OMS Principal Charlie Stotenburg describes what happens next.
