One thing is for sure, famous chef and author Marian Getz, who happens to have Ottawa roots, would’ve never made it as a mathematician. Getz is a regular guest on Home Shopping Network where she helps Wolfgang Puck sell cookware. Getz graduated from Ottawa University in 1985 and also met her husband Greg at OU. She remembers one dark time when she had to take several math-related classes and how her husband gave her vital advice.
Getz says she couldn’t remember anyone telling her before that she’s smart. Her husband began studying with her and eventually she made it to the Dean’s Honor Roll. In addition to her work with HSN, she has also written 38 cookbooks that are sold on the network. Getz’s appearance was part of the OU Hostetter-Defries Lecture Series.
