We have an update from the Osawatomie Trails taskforce concerning the construction of a connection trail. The trails taskforce is in the process of building a trail to connect the Flint Hills Trail State Park to the Osawatomie Sports Complex. The 3/4 mile connector trail is expected to be open some time early next year. Phase 1 of the project includes tree clearing, constructing the trail surface, installing drainage structures and installing a bridge.

As of now, the right-of-way has been acquired and a base of AB3 Rock has been installed. Phase 2 which will begin next summer, will develop the trailhead with enhanced parking and other trailhead amenities. The trail task force was set up about a year ago to discuss how to make Osawatomie a trail head. The goal is to make the Eastern trailhead of the Flint Hills Trail an attractive destination site for all trail users, equestrian, bikers, and hikers, developing Osawatomie into a destination location in regards to trail usage, which is hoped will boost the local economy by bringing trail users in from the KC Metro area.
