Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner attended the Calea conference this week to go through the final process of accreditation through the agency. Calea is the commission on accreditation for law enforcement agencies. The Ottawa Department has been working for the last four years to achieve reaccreditation. Weingartner says he fully expects the hard work to pay off.

Calea accreditation insures the community that law enforcement is committed to provide the highest quality of service and it’s policies and procedures are effective, fair, and equitable.

Nationally, less than 5% of law enforcement agencies attain the status. The Salina, Riley County Police Departments and Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol have achieved the accreditation in Kansas.
