After a year of reduced property crimes in Ottawa, there has been a recent uptick in crimes such as car burglaries and thefts. Many of these crimes are crimes of opportunity, where people leave the car unlocked, an open invitation for a thief. Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner says calls about suspicious activity are also on the increase.
He adds that if you see something out of line, or even mildly suspicious, the sooner you call it in, the quicker an officer can be in the area and hopefully reduce the number of crimes in the area.
