This is utility scam awareness week and more than 100 major utility companies are making people aware that there are scammers out there trying to steal your money. Gina Penzig of Evergy says scammers are trying to catch people of guard.
She adds that you should never give out personal information over the phone, unless you made the call to the company. If you get a call demanding money, hang up, check your account, and call the company directly yourself.
