Ottawa was recently announced as a host city for the Bike Across Kansas event. The event will be held this summer. Bike Across Kansas is a major event for cyclists in Kansas, with up to 800 riders and hundreds of others in support groups taking part in the eight day tour across the state to promote health and wellness through bicycling, the history of Kansas and the warm hospitality of the Kansas towns and people. Participants either camp in tents or stay inside in shelters provided by the host cities. Ottawa High School will serve as the indoor camping spot for Ottawa. OHS principal Kelly Whitaker.
The tourism department will also be working with the city to secure other camping spots for those involved in the ride, including city park, Forest park, and other areas.
