Fall has definitely arrived and with the beautiful weather over the weekend, many of you were probably outside sprucing up the yard, raking leaves and getting ready for winter. A big pile of leaves and other yard debris are tempting to just burn. But, wait, before you burn Garnett Fire Chief Pat Tate says there are some things you need to remember.
First, don’t pile them around fire hydrants, then make sure you call law enforcement dispatch center and let them know about the burn. Then, make sure the leaves are burned in smaller, easy to manage piles. Make sure you have a water source nearby at all times. Another very important factor is the wind. Only burn if the wind is less than 15 miles per hour. Make sure the burn is completely extinguished before leaving the site.
