Law enforcement officers actually lead lives outside the uniform. Anderson County Sheriff Deputy Steve Duckworth, on the job for the past 18 years, is a body builder. He competed in his first bodybuilding competition in early November in Kansas City. After years of recreational weightlifting, Steve became friends with pro bodybuilders Keith and Tina Williams and his interest in competitive bodybuilding began. According to the Anderson County Review, he says he wanted to challenge himself and see if he had the discipline to do it. The strict eating schedule of eating every 3 hours means setting an alarm to wake him up to eat, getting to the gym for cardio and lifting then putting in a 12-hour shift at work. He competed in three categories and took a medal home in each. In the Novice category, which meant he had never competed, he took 2nd, Masters he took 3rd place and in Open Heavyweight he took 5th. He says going into the competition, he didn’t really think about medaling, just gaining some experience, but after bringing home three medals he feels that he performed above expectation.
