The Ottawa Police Department released the results of the Thanksgiving Safe Arrival campaign earlier in the week. From the Monday before Thanksgiving through last Sunday, officers aggressively enforced the Kansas impaired driver and seatbelt laws. During that week, Ottawa police issued 12 seatbelt citations and arrested four impaired drivers. Special traffic enforcement program coordinator Casey Gilmore says stops, tickets and arrests are meant to teach. And he hopes those ticketed and arrested have learned from the experience. He encourages all drivers to buckle up all the time and to never drink and drive. He adds that if you plan to drink any at all, make sure you have a designated sober driver to get everyone home safely.

The Thanksgiving Safe Arrival campaign was sponsored by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
