17,000 lights. People had no trouble seeing an Osawatomie family’s home the past couple weeks. Keith and Tisha Oakley incited everyone out to see the display and help out a good cause along the way. They invited people to stop by, bring a toy for the Miami County Sheriff’s Office “Cops for Tots” toy drive, take a picture with Santa and sip some hot chocolate with them. You’ve heard the phrase, “you build it people will come.” Well, people came. Many people stopped by and donated items for the “Cops for Tots” program. Last Friday, the Oakley’s took 205 items to the Miami County Sheriff’s Department during lunch. That blew away last years total of 107. Oakley is a human services specialist with the Kansas Department for children and families. She credited the toy drive’s success to all the people who donated toys and helped with the drive. Plans are to do it again next year, hopefully bigger and better.
