The Ottawa Panning Commission discussed temporary structures, specifically carports with a fabric covering in the city and whether to regulate their use. Planner Sara Anzicheck checked with several other cities across Kansas and most consider them temporary and do not regulate them. With the number of structures increasing in the city, Community Planning Director Wendy Lee says the concern is keeping the structure on the ground.
The planning commission decided to leave the regulation as is and have the building commission make sure people understand the structures need to be anchored.
