Beginning today through January 1, the Ottawa Police Department will participate in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” traffic enforcement campaign. The new years period outranks most other holidays in the number of crashes in at least one of the drivers is impaired in some way. These drivers not only endanger themselves but also all the innocent, sober people on the road.
Sgt. Casey Gilmore of the Ottawa Police Department says if you are going to be drinking at all, don’t even consider driving. He adds to not let your pride endanger the lives of innocent people. On average across Kansas three persons are injured every day and one person is killed every three days in alcohol and other drug-related crashes. People in such crashes are over 2 and a half times more likely to be injured or killed than those involved in crashes where alcohol or other drugs were not a factor.
