With the mental health issue on forefront of many conversations, whether it be locally or in the state legislature, the Elizabeth Layton Center, or ELC, is focusing on the treatment and prevention of mental health issues, particularly depression. ELC has been in the school helping those students who are their clients for years, but a new program is focusing on teaching adult leaders including teachers about how not only how to recognize potential mental health issues but initiate some tough conversations. It’s called mental health first aid, ELC Director Leslie Bjork has the details.
The class is part of programs the center is initiating thanks to a generous gift from the Wint and Nancy Winter Foundation to be used to provide care and support for their clients education, prevention and treatment of clinical depression and related illnesses.
