The Miami County road and bridge department will be getting a chip spreader to replace their existing machine that was damaged in an accident.

Road and Bridge Director J.R. McMahon told county commissioners during a recent study session the chip spreader’s rotary head was damaged last summer when the spreaders struck a dump truck.

The remaining chip and seal work was completed with a machine the county borrowed from Johnson County at no cost. The new machine will be similar to the one they used from Johnson County, which they say is better on hills and valleys. They are expected to get over 5,000 hours from the new machine. They are purchasing it from a western Kansas county that is trading in with only 500 hours on it and is in incredible shape. The commission approved the purchase of $125,000.
