If you have been out to Pomona Lake the past week, you may have noticed a fluctuation in the discharge rate out of the dam, or possible notice the river level in Ottawa rising. Saturday, the flow was decreased to barely a trickle at 15 cubic feet per second. Yesterday afternoon the discharge was increased to 1,000 cubic feet per second. Park Ranger Eric Patterson says the adjustments were routine adjustments in order to keep the lake level at a specific depth. Heavy rains this past spring and summer kept the lake elevated above flood stage most of the summer, closing many areas of the park including campground, the swimming beach and most boat docks. There are no areas still flooded at Pomona and the increase in discharge was just routine maintenance of the lake level.
