Another holiday period has come and gone and the Kansas Highway Patrol saw a decrease in nearly all categories of traffic offenses. The highlight is that there were no fatal accidents reported during the New Years Day holiday. DUI’s were down from 22 in 2018 to only 15 in 2019.
Speeding citations dropped significantly, down nearly 1/3. Seat belt citations and warnings were also way down, with only 78, compared to 150 last year. Overall the highway patrol is pleased with the results and say the reduced number comes from increased awareness of traffic laws during the holiday and public awareness campaigns regarding the importance of seatbelts and avoiding impaired driving.
