A Paola man is making National news. He has asked a court in Iowa to let him engage in a sword fight with his ex wife and her attorney so he can “render their souls from their bodies.” David Ostrom of Paola said in a Court filing that his ex had destroyed him legally over custody and visitation issues and property tax payments. He has asked the judge to allow a “Trial by Combat” and has asked for 12 weeks to fashion the Japanese Samurai swords for the battle. He argues that the trial by combat has never been banned or restricted in the United States. Attorneys for his ex wife say the court would never grant such a request and have asked that he undergo Court ordered Psychotherapy
