Last week, people in Paola woke to see that someone had crashed through the iconic rock wall at the entrance of Wallace Park. Paola Police now know who did it. Checking security camera, they knew a maroon truck was involved. As luck would have it, a Paola off duty officer spotted a damaged maroon truck on a trailer along the side of the highway 169 near Spring Hill. Officers responded to the scene and after questioning, the driver admitted to the accident. 27-year-old John Zawacki of Paola says he lost control of his truck and crashing into the wall about 3 in the morning on December 15th. He was issued a citation for leaving the scene without reporting an accident. City officials say the wall can be repaired to it’s previous appearance and have filed an insurance claim.
