One issue Governor Kelly brought up in her State of the State Address was cutting the tax on food. She said her budget would reflect that, and in a way, it did. It calls for a refundable credit on food tax for Kansans making less than $30,000, or $40,000 for married couples, up to $240. Representative Blaine Finch says that’s not enough, he would like to see the tax reduced for everyone.
Kansas families are taxed more for food than anywhere else in the United States. Kelly’s plan would increased the number of people getting a food tax rebate from 69,000 people to over 500,000.
