A debate of sorts about why gravel is piled along Franklin County roads came up for discussion at the recent County Commission Meeting.  The topic was spurred by a public comment questioning why gravel is put in a windrow along the roadside, which can prevent water from draining off the road.  County Commissioner Ron Dunn and Public Works Director David Lee tried to explain the reasons why gravel is piled in such a manner:

Lee says the extra gravel is used to solidify the road.  He has asked road grader operators to put an occasional trough or hole in the gravel to allow water to drain off the road
