The Garnett Area Chamber Annual Awards Banquet will be held tonight at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Garnett. The keynote speaker, Jay Selanders is the Chair of Kutak Rock, a law firm. He also has an extensive military background. Jay retired from the Kansas Air National Guard as a Brigadier General. He flew in Operations Desert Shield, received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions in recovering a badly damaged aircraft. Nominations for Organization of the Year are the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival, Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail, Christians Always Ready to Serve, the Garnett Senior Center, and Morning Mingle. Volunteer of the Year nominations: Troy and Donna Hart, Susan Wettstien, Sandra Zook, Beth Mersman, Holly Byerly, Jenny Meyers, Chris Goetz, Doug Meyer, Kevin Malaon. Business of the Year nominees include Navi-Call Solutions, Wolken Tire, Sonic, Guest Home Estates, 6th Avenue Boutique, Troyers Prairie Gold, and Brummel Farm Service.
