The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigation an officer involved shooting yesterday morning in downtown Topeka.

Just before 11:00 in the morning a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation in downtown Topeka.  During the traffic stop the trooper attempted to arrest the male driver who briefly exited his vehicle before resisting arrest and getting back in his car to flee.  In an effort to prevent the driver from leaving, the trooper ended up partially inside the suspects car, and was dragged by the fleeing car.  During the struggle, the trooper fired multiple shots at the subject, who was struck.

EMS responded and transported both the driver and the Trooper to Stormont Vail Hospital.  The Trooper was treated for his injuries and released.  However, the driver 33 year old Gaston Nava Saucedo died from his injuries.  The KBI is conducting the investigation and once completed, it will be turned over to the Shawnee County District Attorney for review.
