Uniting players, coaches, officials and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses in competition. That’s the goal of the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation. Tonight the Ottawa University basketball teams will hold play for Kay Pink Night. Play for Kay is dedicated to former North Carolina State Women’s Basketball coach Kay Yow who battled through three bouts of breast cancer while leading the Wolfpack to 737 wins and being named the NCAA National Coach of the Year eight times in her career. She had a special talent of getting kids to play well above their ability level. The Kay Cancer Fund was established in 2006 to help all women in their battle against cancer. Yow wanted the foundation to fund programs that reached out to people who couldn’t afford treatment. She wanted research to be done so a cure could be found and create new medications to help people live a better quality of life. Tonight at Ottawa University, funds will be raised for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund to help with the fight. As Yow said in an interview shortly before her passing “when life kicks at you, let it kick you forward”.
