Details have been released about the Southern Star Pipeline replacement project that will run from Welda to Ottawa. The company will replace two parallel pipelines crossing more than 30 miles with a single inch natural gas line. President and CEO of Southern Star, Jimmy Stanton says the modernization project will enable the company to manage its system more effectively while continuing to provide safe and reliable gas transport service to customers.
The $145 million project will have both temporary and lasting economic impacts on Franklin and Anderson counties, with over $2 million estimated in lodging business for local providers and nearly 1 and a half million in additional restaurant business from workers on the project.
The first phase of construction will begin this month with completion expected by September.
