A tug-of-war of sorts between the Ottawa Department of Community Development and the Ottawa Fire Department has apparently been resolved. The two departments had been at odds over the diameter of new cul-de-sacs installed by developers. Fire Chief Tim Matthias contended that they should meet the International Standard of 96 feet so large fire trucks could turn around. Community Development Director Wyndee Lee had held out for 80 feet. KOFO’s Milton Ammel spoke with Matthias who said the concession to 80 feet comes with certain conditions. He says it’s a good compromise:
Matthias says as Fire Chief he could unilaterally impose a requirement of 96 feet, but believes it’s important that everyone work together to resolve the matter.
