The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department has a new name. The new name is Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health. Officials say its an effort to communicate its promise to the Community as an organization. Director Dan Partridge says their mission is to advance health for everyone and by adopting the public health name they are communicating to the public that the work of ‘advancing health for all’ cannot be confined into four walls of a building.
As a joint City-County organization, Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health serves as a steward to the community health plan, which establishes achieving health equality within four goal areas that include behavioral health, food security and healthy built enjoronment, safe and affordable housing, and also poverty and jobs.
