In 1964 President Lyndon Johnson designated February as American Heart Month.  Since that time we have found out a lot more about the organ that makes us tick.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States.  Lately, it’s not just a disease that affects older people, due to high rates of obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking. Frontier District Extension Agent, Chelsey Richmond, has some tips for preventing heart disease.

She adds that it is also important to get kids moving and exercising.  Obesity in young children because of inactivity is causing high blood pressure and diabetes, which is leading to heart disease at an earlier age.
