The city of Williamsburg is getting help with a street project. Kansas Secretary of Commerce David Toland announced recently that Williamsburg will receive a community development block grant of $421,230.

The city intends to use these fund to complete a street project in the city. The city will contribute the same amount in local city matching funds. Secretary Toland says the investment is for critical infrastructure to help keep communities like Williamsburg competitive as they work to retain residents and businesses.

The block grant program allows the Department of Commerce to distribute federal funds to Kansas cities and counties looking to improve their communities. The funds are one of commerce’s primary tools in supporting the state’s small, predominantly rural communities. Each community awarded has a population less than 50,000.
