The Kansas Department of Transportation will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the start of the delayed U.S. 169 T-Works project between Welda and Garnett. It will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the northwest corner of the U.S. 169 and 1,000 Road intersection in Welda. In case of bad weather, it will be moved to the Welda Community Center. Starting in March, K-Dot will reconstruct and rehabilitate seven and a half miles of 169 Highway north to the roundabout south of Garnett. Bettis Asphalt and Construction are the primary contractor on the $21 million project. Kansas Secretary of Transportation, Julie Lorenz, and Bettis Asphalt and Construction Vice-President Mark Bettis will speak at the event. The public is invited to attend.
