The Kansas House passed the Kansas Promise Act on Thursday. The Kansas Promise Act is the first of five bills aimed at stimulating rural revitalization, increasing the workforce, and reducing dependence on public assistance.
The act would provide scholarships for Kansas graduates who agree to complete a certificate or two-year program at a community college, technical school, or trade school in one of 10 high-demand areas for skilled workers to help keep Kansans in Kansas.
Representative and speaker protem of the house Blaine Finch says there is one catch.
He added that the promise act is part of a five part plan called “Make Kansas Work” designed to ensure that Kansas has the skilled work force needed to excel in today’s economy and overcome tomorrow’s challenges.
